Migrating from Gift Reggie to Listify

Purchase history comes across. Passwords never do. The links your customers shared stop working the day you uninstall, and there's exactly one way to get them back. Here's the whole thing, including the parts that are inconvenient for us.

We make Listify. This article is about moving to it, so read everything below knowing who wrote it.

That's also why it spends more words on what goes wrong than on what goes right. A migration article that only lists benefits is useless to the person actually doing the migration, because the things that ruin a registry migration are specific and boring and nobody mentions them until the week after. Registry links stop resolving. Passwords don't come with you. Somebody's wedding is in eleven days and their list now shows zero of forty items bought.

None of that has to happen. All of it has happened to somebody.

Why stores leave Gift Reggie

Gift Reggie launched on the Shopify App Store on 9 April 2014 and holds 4.7 stars from 185 reviews. That's the longest continuous run of any gift registry app on the platform, and it isn't nothing.

What the recent reviews describe is an app that has stopped moving. Review velocity fell from seventeen in 2025 to six across January to August 2026. In a sample of forty-four reviews we read on 3 September 2026, the most recent developer reply was dated 13 August 2025.

The complaints cluster in three places, and they're the same three every time.

No analytics board. Outdated interface.

The interface is the first. A three-star review from 23 March 2024 put it as a UI that "just feels like something that was made 10 years ago" and called it "very clunky on a mobile device". Your registrants are on phones. So is your merchandising team when they're checking a list from the shop floor.

The second is reporting. There's no analytics surface, so the question "what are our registries actually worth" has no answer inside the app. You end up exporting orders and doing it by hand, once a quarter, badly.

The third is pricing shape rather than price. Gift Reggie has no free tier. Entry is $9 a month for five active registries, and the ladder runs $15 for twenty-five, $30 for fifty, and $40 for a hundred, with per-registry overage from $0.75 down to $0.10 depending on tier. Those figures are from their public listing on 4 September 2026. If your registry volume is seasonal, and for most stores it's violently seasonal, you're paying for a tier sized for your December in April.

Where Gift Reggie still wins

We would rather tell you this here than have you find it out in week two.

Shopify POS. Gift Reggie has shipped in-store registry support for years. Listify has not: ours is in active development and there's no date on it. If a customer walks into your shop, asks for the Henderson wedding list, and expects the sale attributed to it at the counter, Gift Reggie does that today and we do not. That's the single strongest reason to stay, and no amount of the rest of this article changes it.

Customer accounts. Their registry flow is wired into Shopify customer accounts, which some stores lean on heavily for identity and order history.

A long trial on the upper tiers. Their Professional and Expert plans carry thirty-day trials, against seven days on the two lower ones. Ours is a 7-day trial and it's a lifetime budget for your store rather than a fresh one per plan, so if you spend it evaluating one tier you do not get another for the next.

Eleven years of edge cases. An app that has been in production since 2014 has met problems ours has not. That's worth something real, and it's worth more the weirder your store is.

What transfers, precisely

Coming across from a Gift Reggie export: registry names, event types and event dates. Every item on each list, with the quantity the registrant asked for. Registrant and co-registrant contact details. Purchased quantities, which is the important one. Shipping addresses where the export carries them.

Purchase history surviving is specific to Gift Reggie. Their export carries what has been bought against each item, so a registry that was sixty percent fulfilled on Tuesday is sixty percent fulfilled on Wednesday. Move off almost any other registry app and gifted progress restarts at zero unless the order records can be reconstructed by hand. If you have been putting off a migration because you assumed progress would reset, that assumption is wrong in your specific case.

What breaks, precisely

Passwords. Registry passwords don't transfer, from any app to any app, including ours. They are stored hashed, so there's nothing in any export to hand over. Registrants set a new one after the move. Plan a short email to the affected list rather than letting them discover it.

Item ordering and custom properties. How a registrant arranged their list, and any per-item notes that live in Gift Reggie's own fields rather than in the product, arrive normalised rather than preserved.

Anything not in the export. This sounds obvious and it's the one that catches people. If a piece of information is only visible in the Gift Reggie admin and isn't in the file they give you, it doesn't exist as far as the migration is concerned. Ask for the export early, before you have made any promises internally about what will be there.

A registry link your customer emailed to forty wedding guests looks like it belongs to your store. It has your domain in it. It doesn't belong to your store: the path in the middle of it's Gift Reggie's app proxy prefix, and that prefix is theirs. The moment you uninstall Gift Reggie, Shopify stops routing that path to anything, and every one of those links returns a 404. Our app never sees the request. No registry app on the platform can change this, and any that tells you otherwise is describing something it hasn't tested.

The recovery is a bulk URL redirect file, imported through Online Store, Navigation, URL Redirects, Import. We generate it for you from your migrated registries. Because Shopify URL redirects have no wildcard support, it needs one row per registry, which is exactly why it's a generated file and not something you hand-write.

The redirect points at the registry's page on your store's proxy path, which resolves the old Gift Reggie identifier directly, so a guest clicking a link they saved in March lands on the right registry and never learns anything moved.

How the move runs

There's no self-serve importer and we aren't going to pretend otherwise. Every migration is run with you, from an export.

  1. 1

Install Listify and request your Gift Reggie export

Gift Reggie keeps running throughout. Nothing on your storefront changes while we work, and your registrants carry on using the app they already know.

  2. 2

We match your export against your Shopify catalog

This is the step that sets the date. Registry items have to resolve to real variants in your catalog, and SKU format and catalog coverage are separate problems. A store whose registry assortment was never fully synced to Shopify fails the second one no matter how clean the export is. We check it before anyone promises a timeline.

  3. 3

We move the registries and tell you what came with them

You get the result in your own admin, plus the redirect file for your existing links, plus a plain list of anything that didn't resolve.

  4. 4

You approve, then you switch over

You import the redirects, uninstall Gift Reggie, and turn the Listify widget on. If something is wrong, we fix it before this step rather than after it.

Questions, answered honestly

How long does a Gift Reggie migration take?
We give you a date once we have seen your export, and not before. The variable is how cleanly your registry items resolve to variants in your Shopify catalog, which we can measure in about an hour. A store with a fully synced catalog and a clean export is quick. A store whose registry assortment was never fully in Shopify is a catalog project first and a migration second.
Do my registrants have to do anything?
Set a new registry password, and nothing else. Their lists arrive built, with items, quantities and purchased quantities intact.
Will I pay for both apps at once?
For the overlap, yes. Gift Reggie stays installed until you have approved the result, which is the part that makes this safe rather than the part that makes it expensive. We don't charge anything extra for the move itself.
What if we have registries with events already in progress?
That's the normal case, and it's the reason purchase history mattering is worth a section of its own. Because Gift Reggie's export carries purchased quantities, an in-flight registry arrives at the same completion it was at. You don't have to wait for a gap between wedding seasons.
Can we go back if we change our mind?
Your Gift Reggie export is a file you keep, and Gift Reggie is still on the App Store. The thing that's genuinely hard to reverse is the redirect file, since it points your old URLs at Listify. Keep the export.

The wider version of all of this, covering every source app rather than just Gift Reggie, is on our migration page. If you're still deciding rather than moving, the registry app roundup compares seven of them including this one, ordered so we don't get to put ourselves first.
